TINA - The Tina Turner Musical Detroit reviews
We had the best time!
The production was fantastic! I am a huge fan so knew some of the story of Tina Turner's life so I wasn't surprised by the very difficult scenes that included domestic abuse and violence. The entire cast did such a wonderful job! The music was top notch and I was SO impressed by the woman, Arie, who played Tina Turner. I believe the show I saw was her Minneapolis debut. She really gave it everything she had, she is so talented and her voice is beyond amazing. I'm so glad I was able to see this show and that it didn't break the bank. When I looked at tickets last fall they were way beyond my price range, but as it got closer I was able to find reasonably priced tickets. I brought two of my girlfriends with me and they both loved it as well.
Tina - Wasn't the best show
I've seen many off Broadway shows and this one wasn't the best. It seemed like there may have been a low budget for stage props as there was not much on the stage through out the performance. Ike Turner's band mates were actually members of the orchestra band, and unfortunately, some didn't fit profile of what you expected to be part of that group. The lead character of Tina was replaced by another individual (Ari Groover) even though there were two cast members that shared the role along with the two under studies. No explanation as to why they were replaced or did not perform. Ari could sing, but she didn't have the range of Tina Turner. The lower vocals seem to be a challenge as they were not always clear and sounded like she was mumbling. We were also not sure why her costume changes took place on stage at times. She did come back on stage to sing two extra songs after the performance, but I don't feel I got my money's worth for this show.
